Food Items for Importation
Homeland Security regulations, enforced by FDA, require notice to the Federal Government of intent to import.
"The Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (the Bioterrorism Act) directs the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as the food regulatory agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, to take additional steps to protect the public from a threatened or actual terrorist attack on the U.S. food supply and other food-related emergencies."
"Along with other provisions, the Act requires that FDA receive prior notification of food, including animal feed that is imported or offered for import into the United States. Advance notice of import shipments allows FDA, with the support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to target import inspections more effectively and help protect that nation's food supply against terrorist acts and other public health emergencies."
There are several programs within the food distribution system (often franchised) to help support and give exposure to product lines with ethnic appeal.
There are costs associated with all marking routes. These costs are paid by the manufacturer; no free rides.
Funding the right distributors translates into market share....
Manufacturer will be required support the product.
Samples... advertising dollars, sales materials, aggressive pricing when required... etc...
Bringing products here.... [1] FDA registered food facility and [2] importation pre-notification.
Clearing customs.... To determine this, what we'll need are particulars for proposed imported product(s): [1] ingredient specifications, [2] label, [3] claims, [4] professional opinions and reports, and [5] any registered (or applied-for) trademarks or patents, for all products over which label-owner has full control.
We use these bona fides with our board as the required due diligence. Through our group we have access to over a half dozen distribution houses.
